Let's Start Writing

I try to start writing on my own Blogger.com although it is a little bit late  at my age 40s. Like a proverb says: Late is better than do nothing. Whatever I want to write it does not matter, the most important things is how let on  my feeling and thinking about anything. I know writing writing and writing is an uneasy work like what we say because we are not accustomed to writing. This unfamiliar skill becomes a big obstacle for anybody the same as reading. Generally, in western countries like UK, USA and other countries in European countries people love reading books, novels, magazines, newspapers and even journals in any places; and writing anything either diaries, small notes or journals in their life. No wondering if they have better thinking than the Indonesian. These good habits are also often done by people in some Asian countries,  Japan, Hongkong, and others. I saw them in Taiwan when I studied for 2.5 years. Whenever I went, I saw the Taiwanese reading books or novels. Even, some university students read local or int' journals on their iPads when they are in a train, bus, Starbucks, and park. They do to kill their time in public spaces or public transportation while waiting for their destination. In public transportations they are seldom to talk a lot. If yes, they speak softly in order that the other passengers are convenient to  have a trip. 

Similarly like reading, writing has become their habit since their childhood. All of my local classmates always wrote down something in their books while waiting for professor's coming to the class. I had ever asked my Taiwanese classmate why she liked writing something in her book. She said that  elementary school in Taiwan had to have reading and writing courses. The basic school teachers had to teach students how to write well and finally they love writing. They tried to write from simple things until an essay. The teachers asked the students to read a book, then two or three students were pointed to tell the content of the book they read. The success shows that Taiwanese professors are keen into reading and writing journals. All professors in Taiwan must publish 10 journals either local or int' journals in a year unless they will have problems with their career. So, how about the Indonesian people? The Indonesian lecturers and professors? A big question appear from my mind: How to improve Reading and Writing Habit for the Indonesian people?

Not only the students from all levels have a Typhoon problem, but also the lecturers are so reluctant to improve their reading and writing competence. They adore to spend their usefulness time for relaxing, making a gossip, hanging out together with friends, and the worst action they always do is chatting in Face Book. From these bad habits we encounter the education in our country is getting worse and worse. We rarely use our brain to create a good writing and publish in any mass media. In Taiwan, professor teach only three classes, their remaining time to do research and write a journal. This is quite different from the Indonesian lecturers or professors. E.g: I am, a lecturer at a vocational higher education, should not have had much time to teach students.  It occurs because Lhoksemawe State Polytechnic has  limited English lecturers. Therefore, some of them do not have time to read some journals, to do research and to write a journal to be published. Furthermore, some of the lecturers are lazy to read and write journals. They just join with someone having an idea to do research and write a journal. That's shame on us!. Whom should we blame? Teacher? Family?

The big mistake comes from our family, father and mother,  who is never be a noble sample to their children in reading and writing; and then we should blame school party where teachers are never serious to guide us to write a simple composition. So, when we write a thesis or dissertation we trouble in expressing writing ideas because of not having reading and writing awareness since young age. 

So bro and sis, let's start writing from now on. People do not know you whether you are smart or not, but people will know you from your writing. Much reading will generate much better writing. One writing will produce much writing that show who you are. Be smart not work hard. Never say too late to do the good things.
